Good to know
A win or a place opens scholarships and university admission abroad.
Almost every olympiad is free. Selection for international rounds runs through the national stage, so the school round is where it starts.
Frequently asked questions
How does a student reach an international olympiad?
Through the national selection: school round → district → regional → national. Winners of the national stage form the Ukrainian team for international olympiads (IMO in maths, IOI in informatics, IPhO in physics and others).
Is taking part free?
Yes, participation in national and international subject olympiads is free. For international competitions, travel is usually covered by the state or the organiser.
What does winning an olympiad give you?
Winners of the national stage get admission benefits at Ukrainian universities, and international olympiad results are recognised by universities abroad — one of the strongest lines in a scholarship application.
