The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is one of the most prestigious intellectual competitions in physics for schoolchildren from around the world. It took place from July 4-12 in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Ukrainian schoolchildren won 5 medals.
IPhO (International Physics Olympiad) — international physics olympiad for high school students. It consists of two parts: a theoretical round and an experimental round, where you have to conduct a real experiment and process the data.
The experimental part is often the biggest surprise: you can't prepare for it with textbooks alone, you need hands-on lab practice.
There's one path for all subject olympiads — through the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in that subject. It has four stages:
After the final, top performers are invited to training camps. Ukraine's team participation is organized by the Institute for Modernization of Educational Content (IMZO) — this is where team rosters and results are published.
Key thing to understand: you can't apply directly to the international olympiad. The only entry point is through the school stage. So you need to start preparing a year to 18 months before the competition itself.
Participants who represented Ukraine at international competitions fall into a special category in admissions rules. Conditions change yearly, so the only reliable source is the current Higher Education Admission Procedure, which the Ministry of Education publishes separately for each year. Don't rely on last year's articles — the rules really do change.
