Genius Olympiad — International Competition
Apply by16 April 2027
International competition for students in grades 8–12 solving environmental problems across nine disciplines: science, art, short film, music, robotics, entrepreneurship, public speaking, programming, and artificial intelligence. Project submissions close March 1, 2027 (April 16 for USA/EU). Finals June 7–11, 2027. Finalists announced March 25. Participation fee required.

Competition Disciplines
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) — developing AI agents to solve environmental problems using machine learning methods
- Art — highlighting environmental challenges and solutions through artistic expression
- Programming — using coding skills to create innovative solutions to environmental problems. New 2027 format: instead of an exam, a project on an assigned topic; finalists will compete in a 24-hour hackathon
- Entrepreneurship — developing innovative and sustainable business ideas to solve environmental challenges
- Music — motivating society towards positive change through musical performance
- Robotics — understanding the role of engineering and research in environmental protection
- Science — developing innovative solutions to environmental problems using science and engineering
- Short Film — driving behavioural change on global issues through the camera lens
- Public Speaking — raising awareness and inspiring action on environmental issues through compelling speeches
Submission Process and Timeline
- Project submissions: by March 1, 2027 (09:00 Eastern Time). USA/EU: by April 16. Submission fee: USD 75 per project
- Finalists announcement: March 25 (check submission system)
- Participant registration: by May 10. Participation fee: USD 695 per participant
- Visa letter request: March 25 – May 10 (payment must be made to receive the letter)
- Travel and trip registration: March 25 – May 10 for trips to New York, Washington, and Boston
- Finals: June 7–11, 2027
Other Opportunities
- Genius Olympiad Club: launch a club at your school to explore sustainable development, innovation, leadership, and teamwork
- Participating countries: the programme is expanding — new programmes in Angola, Australasia, Azerbaijan, China, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, South Korea, and Ukraine
- International journal: participants and other high school students are invited to publish in the International Journal of High School Research — a peer-reviewed journal
- Optional trips after finals (2027):
- Washington DC and New York: 3 nights, 2 days (1 day in Washington, 1 day in New York)
- Boston, New York, and Ivy League university tour: 4 nights, 3 days
